The Advising Resource Center provides academic, career, relational and transfer advising services to students.
It manages a variety of outreach programs to promote student success; develops academic plans for students; coordinates the academic advisement for registration events; and assists in providing advisor training to faculty and staff.
What is an advisor?
Advisor – A faculty or staff member who provides prospective and current students with information on degree/certificate requirements and guides academic planning. They also assist with registration.
Counselor – A professional staff member trained to give guidance on personal, social, and psychological problems. (Note: The College also employs “counselors” in admissions, financial aid, career services, etc. These staff members provide assistance and advice on topics within their offices.)
Success Coach – A professional staff member who provides a broad range of services to students to help them be successful in college. They monitor a student's progression, provide connections to support services, and help students develop plans and strategies to be successful. In some cases, they may provide academic advising and registration assistance.
Peer Mentor – A successful current Northeast State student who interacts directly and regularly with other Northeast State students seeking personal, social, and academic support. Under the direction of the College’s Mentor Specialist, peer mentors provide advice and support. They may also help students identify goals and connect them to services.
