Northeast State’s Career & Workforce Development Center serves students, alumni, and community members in all aspects of career and professional planning.
A dedicated staff is available to assist with career coaching, resume development, cover letters, interviewing and job search. The office can assist individuals with clarifying their objectives and establishing career goals, which will enable them to fulfill their personal potential. To help individuals clarify their career goals, guidance is provided through career interest assessments and exploration of occupations. Additionally, staff at the Career and Workforce Development Center stay abreast of regional career opportunities to help students connect to jobs that fit their skills, interests, and employment needs.
The Career & Workforce Development Center is a proud partner of Handshake, an online career services platform, where individuals can access job postings, career-related events, and additional career development resources. Students, alumni, and community members are invited to create an account in the Handshake system to access job postings and career resources 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. What Can I Do With This Major? features 100 major profiles with information on common career paths, types of employer that hire in the field, and strategies to maximize opportunities. This website will help you connect majors to careers.
The center offers the Strong Interest Inventory assessment by Myers-Briggs. This assessment is a career- planning tool that measures your interests over several categories such as school subjects, work activities, and leisure activities. It uses your responses to match your interests to various careers and work environments you are most likely to enjoy. This free and fully online assessment typically takes 30-40 minutes to complete and then requires an appointment with a staff member to review results. Jobs4TN.gov is Tennessee's powerful online job seeker/workforce services system. This system allows users to quickly access a range of services including the latest labor market information for occupations and related job postings.
CareerOneStop is the flagship career, training, and job search website of the U.S. Department of Labor. The website serves job seekers, businesses, students, and career advisors with a variety of free online tools, information, and resources.
O*Net OnLine offers a variety of search options for researching labor market information. Information is available for over 900 occupations. O*Net is a unique and powerful source for continually updated occupational information and labor market research.
Northeast State’s catalog houses course offerings, descriptions, and academic requirements.
Northeast State provides a variety of services to area employers through our Career and Workforce Development Center. Employers interested in advertising open positions can register and post their jobs on campus. Career Fairs are held to allow employers to share information and meet prospective students. The Career and Workforce Development Center offers a variety of workshops and classroom presentations on a range of career-development topics. Most presentations require a minimum of three (3) weeks prior notice. Due to demand of presentations we will only be able to accommodate one (1) presentation per class. To request a presentation, please call us at 423.354.5229 or email CareerSvcs@NortheastState.edu. We will contact you within one week of receiving your request to confirm the date of your presentation.
We encourage high school guidance counselors to utilize the Career and Workforce Development Center to supplement the guidance and counseling that students are already receiving through the school system. Career and Workforce Development Center staff are available to present workshops in high school classrooms. Primary office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
However, to dedicate adequate time to serve your needs an appointment is recommended. After-hours appointments are available upon request.
