What We Offer

DROP IN TUTORING

Drop in for tutorial assistance in any of your classes. Check the schedule to see when personal tutors are available or ask the Center Coordinator what help is available online.

COMPUTER HELP

General computer help sessions are available for individuals who need assistance with navigating D2L, fully online courses, email accounts, or Microsoft Office products.

PRE-PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE

Come in for assistance in preparing for placement tests in mathematics, reading, and writing. Tutoring and online resources are available to help prospective students review basic skills prior to placement testing. With some review students are frequently able to test into college level classes.

FACULTY AND STAFF ASSISTANCE

Faculty and staff provide tutorial and other online resources to benefit students as they attempt to master course competencies. Center staff will assist students in locating appropriate sources of assistance.

Online Resources

ONLINE WRITING ASSISTANCE

English and writing assistance is available through email. While face-to-face tutoring is a better option, it may not be feasible for some students. Students can email The Learning Center at TLC@northeaststate.edu to obtain online tutorial assistance. Students needing tutorial assistance must provide:

  • copy of the assignment instructions
  • draft of the paper about which they want feedback (in a Word document)

A writing tutor will examine the paper, and The Learning Center will send feedback. Please note that this feedback does not constitute a paper editing service. We provide feedback about strengths and weaknesses of the paper, as well as suggestions about how to improve it. We will give feedback about prevalent grammatical problems with the paper, but we do not correct the paper line-by-line or word-by-word. We consider learning to edit a paper to be part of a student’s academic development, so we assist students in making their own corrections.

Note: Writing assistance is available for ANY classes in which students are writing essays or papers.

ONLINE MATH TUTORING

Online tutoring through email will be available for MATH 1100 (and co-requisite 0030), MATH 1530 (and co-requisite 0530), MATH 1710, and MATH 1720. Students may submit questions at any time, and a math tutor will respond during the regular evening tutoring hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 9-11p.m.). Students may also interact with a math tutor through email in real time. Students should include their course numbers/titles in the emails. Students should send questions to TLC@NortheastState.edu (not case sensitive).

We look forward to providing all students with assistance in The Learning Center, Wayne G. Basler Library, Room L103.
