Dear Northeast State Community,
I wanted to update you on where we are in our college’s efforts following Hurricane Helene.
First, all faculty and staff are safe from physical harm. We do have some employees facing difficulties, which we will work to help resolve where we can. Please keep them in your thoughts.
Second, we have aggressively reached out to all students to assess their well-being and needs. As you know, we started Northeast State C.A.R.E.S. to accept donations supporting students impacted by Helene. Northeast State will redistribute all donations to currently enrolled students based on an emergency application process. Those funds have already begun being distributed. We have also encouraged students and let them know that we are here for them and that faculty will allow students the flexibility they need with missed classes or assignments and adjust deadlines to accommodate their recovery.

Third, we have actively engaged in our community. We asked Unicoi, Carter, and Johnson counties what we could do to help and subsequently started the Northeast State Donation Drive. Deliveries have already been made to both Unicoi and Carter counties. We also expect to help Carter County Schools resolve the need to relocate students from Hampton High School. More to come on that later. Finally, we are in continual communication with the school systems in the affected areas, which center their communities. Whatever they need, we will deliver. Some pictures of those efforts are below.
Thank you for your concern, your compassion, and your generosity. Northeast State will continue to help meet the needs of our neighbors for as long as it takes. In the coming weeks, we expect to transition from providing the needed essentials to helping rebuild what was lost. More to come on that later as well.
Dr. Jeff McCord
Northeast State President
