The KCHE consists of two institutions

• Northeast State Community College
• East Tennessee State University

This unique partnership allows the Center to offer courses and programs ranging from associate to doctoral degrees. The KCHE offers the core and prerequisite classes for associate degrees and certificate programs from Northeast State and select baccalaureate and graduate degrees from participating universities. You can complete an associate of arts or associate of science degree (University Parallel Program) and transfer directly into the senior institution housed in the KCHE.

The Division of Health Professions is housed at the Regional Center for Health Professions (RCHP). The purpose of the Health Professions Division is to provide instruction in:

• Advanced Emergency Medical Technology
• Cardiovascular Technology - Invasive Option

• Dental Assisting

These programs prepare students to function in the role of a specialized healthcare provider. 

The Nursing program prepares individuals to become registered nurses. The associate degree graduate in Nursing is a generalist whose practice encompasses the interrelated roles of care provider, manager of care, and member of a comprehensive healthcare team.

Completion of these programs enables the student to take certification and/or licensure examinations required in these healthcare fields.

The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) is Northeast State’s primary off-campus facility for training a qualified workforce for the region’s manufacturing sector. Our 26,000-square-foot training facility features the latest simulators, flexible classrooms, and qualified instruction to help employees learn advanced manufacturing skills. RCAM courses may be used to fulfill requirements for associate of applied science degrees and/or technical certificate programs offered in the following areas:

• Chemical Process Operations
• Electromechanical Technology
• Electrical Technology
• Welding/Metal Fabrication

In addition to academic programs, RCAM also offers customized training for our regional manufacturers.

The Auto Body Service Technology program at Northeast State prepares individuals for employment in the auto body industry for estimation of services, auto-body work, and painting. With the acquired skills and knowledge gained, individuals will be able to repair, reconstruct, refinish automotive bodies, and straighten vehicle frames and external features using state-of-the-art equipment and skills involving manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination.

Q: What classes do you offer? 

A: Day and evening courses are offered at the Northeast State at Kingsport teaching site. The site offers a variety of courses in liberal arts, technical, health-related professions, nursing, and continuing education programs. 

Q: Is advisement currently available at the site? 

A: Each student is assigned a faculty advisor based upon his or her major. Students needing academic assistance are encouraged to seek advisement from their assigned advisor. Students may call 423.323.0229 if they are unsure of their advisor’s name and/or office telephone number or set up an appointment with one of the following advisors at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE):

Q: Can I buy books at the site? 

A: Books for classes taught in Kingsport are provided through the bookstore at Northeast State’s Blountville campus or online via the Bookstore.

Q: Are Library services available? 

A: The Student Resource Center at the Kingsport site is linked to the library on the Blountville campus via an automated system and offers access to the online catalog, the Internet, and a variety of full-text databases. Students may also check out selected books, videos, and other materials.

Q: Does the site have open computer lab time scheduled? 

A: The Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) provides computer use for students in the Student Resource Center, KC331. The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) provides computer use for students in the Study/Testing Center, KM137. 

Q: Can I register for classes at the site? 

A: Students may register, drop/add classes, review billing information, etc. at the site by using the  MyNortheast system. 

Q: Are student support services available, such as tutors? 

A: Students attending the Kingsport site are afforded the same student support services as students attending the Blountville campus. These services are provided by personnel working onsite and also by Northeast State staff from the Blountville campus who visit the site on a regularly scheduled or as-needed basis. Specific dates and times services are available and posted at the various sites. Additional information can be gained by visiting the administrative office at the site.

Q: What are your operating hours of the Kingsport site? 

A: The operational hours for the Kingsport Center for Higher Education are Monday and Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Administrative office hours for the Regional Center for Health Professions are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
