International Education Committee’s Purpose

The International Education Committee (IEC) shall assist the college in establishing its international education program and promoting cultural understanding at Northeast State Community College.  

The IEC oversees the distribution of funds generated by the international fee collected from each student each semester, which shall be used to

  1. Promote cultural awareness with an emphasis on campus globalization;
  2. Facilitate student success in and completion of student learning outcomes through high impact practices;
  3. Support professional development related to international education for campus constituencies.

Faculty, staff, and student groups may apply for international education funds through the committee (see more info below). Beginning with 2019-20 fiscal year, these funds will be allocated in the following areas:

  1. Campus Globalization, including co-curricular activities, curriculum development, and professional development related to international education for campus constituencies;
  2. Global Outreach, linking community international activities with the college;
  3. Education Away, providing in-country study away and study abroad trips pertaining to international education.

Past International Education Programming

  • An internationally themed weekend trip per semester, such as to Washington, D.C. to visit the Holocaust Museum, Museum of the American Indian, & international art museums
  • Annual international food fairs featuring local restaurants
  • International guest speakers, like Marie-Christine Williams, Rwandan Genocide survivor, & musicians, such as Taikoza, a Japanese drumming group
  • Virtual reality travel & cultural events per campus
  • Traveling themed cultural displays, such as international animal festivals
