Step 1: Apply

Submit the following:

  • Application for admission at www.NortheastState.edu/Apply
  • Official high school transcript with graduation date OR high school equivalency (GED®/HiSET®) scores and official college transcripts, if applicable, from each college attended Joint Service Transcript (veterans & servicemembers) which can be found at JST.DODEd.mil/
  • Proof of citizenship or lawful presence in the United States (Driver's License)

Step 2: Financial Aid & Scholarships

Step 3: Placement Testing

  • First-time students who do not present valid ACT or SAT scores or who do not show proficiency in reading, math or English will be placed into the appropriate subject area corequisite learning support course(s) as defined by the academic program requirements.
  • Valid ACT or SAT scores are those earned within five years prior to the first day of the first term of enrollment.
  • Students have the option to challenge placement into learning support courses by taking the Accuplacer test.

Step 4: Schedule Orientation

At orientation you will schedule your classes, talk to reps from Financial Aid and the Bookstore, and learn to navigate your MyNortheast account. Call 423.323.0229 to schedule a New Student Orientation (required for first-time college students).

Step 5: Request a Deferment of Fees

  • As a recipient of a VA educational benefit you have the option of requesting to defer your tuition and fees. Please contact the Veteran & Military Student Success Center at 423.354.2527 to obtain the request form.
  • Tuition and fees are due by the last day of each semester.

Step 6: Buy Your Books

You can purchase your books at the Northeast State bookstore.

Step 7: Apply for Your VA Benefits

Submit the following:

  • Veterans:
    • DD Form 214
    • Certificate of Eligibility
  • Guard/Reservist:
    • Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
    • Certificate of Eligibility
  • Dependents (DEA):
    • Rating decision letter
    • Marriage license or birth certificate
    • Certificate of Eligibility
  • Dependents (TOE): Certificate of Eligibility

Applications can be submitted online via VA.gov

Step 8: Apply for Your State Benefits

Submit the following:

  • Guard or Reservist-Tuition Assistance approval
  • Guard-TN STRONG approval
    • Applications can be found via TN.gov
