" I began my journey doubting my worthiness of recognition for my work. PTK and Honors have proven me wrong, revealing that I am truly deserving of this honor! "
Vice-President of Scholarship
"I joined PTK to gain experience in academic research and service implementation. As a student, I enjoy giving back to Northeast State and the Tri-Cities through helping my peers and community succeed. When I heard about the opportunity to become a PTK officer, I applied for it!"
Vice-President of Service
"I didn't think I'd join extracurriculars because I'm not as good at speaking out and working with a team like most people, but joining PTK really helped me build valuable connections."
Vice President of Fellowship
“I never thought I would do well enough in college to participate in PTK, but now I’m motivated to serve and research with my team.”

Communication
"One thing I like about PTK is the community and equality experienced by all members. I have spent most of my educational time working alone and never being part of a team. With PTK, everyone is treated with respect and kindness as we all work towards the same objectives."
Honors in Action Chair
"I’m interested in helping people and finding creative ways to give back to my school and my community. When I heard about the Honors in Action project, I knew PTK was the place for me!"

"I'm in it for the food!!"
We have researched the theme, "Stories of Persistence, Resilience, Healing, and Sorrow," which asks how such stories can provoke and inspire us to develop resilience in the face of difficulty. Our research revealed that the elderly population in Tennessee is increasing significantly and that older adults can become socially isolated which increases health risks.
We are engaged in a community action project, Inspiring Generations, in which we are interviewing residents at the Blake Senior Living. They are serving as our mentors, telling us their life stories of overcoming obstacles, which we will record and compile for inclusion in the Basler Library Tennessee History: Reclaiming the Past database. These stories will inspire us and anyone who reads them now or in the future. If you are interested in helping, come to our first PTK Member Meeting on September 30, 2024, from 1:30-2:30 in L226.
This year, we are working with Dr. McCord, Student Success, and Student Life on a proposal for a new outdoor area for students that we are calling "The Porch at Basler Library." We hope to create a sense of "student soul" with this space, leaving portions of our personalities behind through what we help to build, both conceptually and physically. Our personalities will become evident in the feeling of this new space, making the campus a home away from home for students who gather there.
